The Independence Jail, located at the Independence Adult Detention Facility, is one of the local jails in the state of Iowa’s criminal justice system. This jail is a major maximum-security facility managed by the locally elected Sheriff. It provides secure confinement of inmates at the local level. The Independence Jail relies on TouchPay to facilitate sending money to an inmate, or make municipal or court payments. Members of the public may send money to inmates held at the Independence City by depositing the funds to the inmate’s TouchPay accounts via:

Phone calls

The Independence Jail allows inmates to receive or make phone calls to pre-approved friends or family members. These phone calls are limited to certain hours of the day, except for instances when the facility is on lockdown. All phone conversations are recorded. Visitation

Inmates at the Independence Jail can receive a visitation from their legal guardians, parents, grandparents every Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and, 11:00 a.m., or 1:00 pm to 4.30 pm. But, the inmate’s attorney, probation officer, or social worker may visit anytime. There are strict rules regarding identification, clothing attire, items allowed to the facility, and ban on smoking or carrying tobacco products during the visitation.
