The office is a low-security prison. It houses both female and male detainees at one point in Ashland, Kentucky. The prison works and overseen by the Federal Agency of Jails. Neighboring the principal office, a satellite jail camp is home to the least security female prisoners.
FCI Ashland opened their entryways in August of 1940. The sole object was to house both female and male prisoners. It held a couple of prominent political detainees during the subsequent World War.
