Sending Money

Inmates at the Detroit Jail have access to a Commissary account where they can receive money from their friends and family members. These funds can be in the form of cash, check or money order. To send the funds, the sender must indicate the full names of the inmate and their inmate ID at the back of the check or money order.

Phone calls

Once the inmate is done with the booking process, they can make limited free calls to select members of the public. Likewise, an inmate can make a call collect from their cell block to anyone in the approved member’s list. The receiver of the call collect bears the full cost of the phone call. Hence, the receiver is to liaise with their telephone service provider to ensure that these call collect are not blocked.

Visitation

Inmates at the Detroit Jail are allowed visitation every day between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. unless there is a cancellation without notice by the jail staff. Members of the public have up to 15 minutes to meet and talk to the inmate at the jail’s lobby. The jail allows up to two visitors per inmate at a time.
