Inmates at the Detroit Jail have access to a Commissary account where they can receive money from their friends and family members. These funds can be in the form of cash, check or money order. To send the funds, the sender must indicate the full names of the inmate and their inmate ID at the back of the check or money order.

Once the inmate is done with the booking process, they can make limited free calls to select members of the public.
