The John G. Richards Youth Detention Center, also known as Columbia Prison, is a medium-security state prison holding adult female inmates in Richland County, South Carolina. This prison has two living units capable of holding up to 64 offenders serving long sentences. The first one is minimum security confinement with 100-beds capacity while the second unit is 90-bed confinement for special management. Other facilities include a medical section, a maintenance area, a dining area, canteen, gym, and correctional industries. The John G. Richards Youth Detention Center is one of the few state prisons in the United States using the latest technology in keeping the inmates, visitors, and prison officials safe.
