The Fairfax County Jail is one of the oldest correctional facilities in Virginia. In 1992, the Fairfax County Historical Society bought and listed the premise on the Nation Register of Historic Places. Under the Fairfax County Sheriff’s supervision, this medium security jail receives inmates from local city jails to serve sentences of less than two years. It has a separate section for violent or out of control inmates to safeguard the safety of visitors, jail staff, and other inmates. The inmates have non-compulsory work whereby they can help with laundry, kitchen duties or other assigned tasks and get to reduce several days from their sentence.
